# Docker Installation

This guide will help you install Docker on your Windows Machine.

# Requirements

# Installation Steps

  1. Install Git
  2. Install Docker Desktop
    • If you have not downloaded installer get installer from link in requirements section above.
  3. When prompted select emulation method
    • If on Windows 10 Pro ensure the Enable Hyper-V Windows Feature option is selected on the configuration page.
    • If on Windows 10 Home ensure the Enable WSL 2 Feature option is selected on the configuration page.
  4. Follow the instructions on the installation wizard to authorize the installer and proceed with the install.
  5. When the installation is successful, click close to complete the installation process.
  6. If on Windows 10 Pro - if your admin account is different from your user account, you must add the user to the docker-users group. Run Computer Management as ad administrator and navigate to Local Users and Groups > Groups > docker-users. Right-click to add the user to the group. Log out and log back in for the changes to take effect.

# Start Docker Desktop

Docker Desktop does not start automatically after installation. To start Docker Desktop, search for Docker, and select Docker Desktop in the search results.

When the whale icon in the status bar stays steady, Docker Desktop is up-and-running, and is accessible from any terminal window.

# Test your Docker Desktop installation

  1. Open a terminal window (Command Prompt or PowerShell, but not PowerShell ISE).
  2. Run docker --version to ensure that you have a supported version of Docker:
> docker --version
