# Install Git

  1. Double-click the Git installation file to run the installer. If you haven't already downloaded the install, you can get it from the Git website (opens new window). It typically downloads to your Downloads folder, or you can run it from the recent downloads bar at the bottom of your web browser.

  2. Follow the instructions on the installation wizard to authorize the install and proceed with the install.

  3. When the installation is successful, click Close to complete the installation process.

# Test your Git Installation

  1. Open a terminal window (Command Prompt or PowerShell, but not PowerShell ISE).
  2. Run git --version to ensure that you have installed git successfully. This will display the installed version of Git in your terminal.
> git --version
git version 3.4.0.windows.1
